THE IMAM JAMIL al-AMIN FILM and MUSIC PROJECT

IJA-Collage

The Imam Jamil al-Amin (formerly H. Rap Brown) film, music, and entertainment project is based on and derived from his life of service, his writings and catalogue of material. We would like to discuss this project with those that are interested and can further assist.

This project is about the life of Imam Jamil (H. Rap Brown), known as the prolific civil rights militant revolutionary during the world altering sixties and seventies, Brown was known for his honest, incendiary speeches and advocating political demonstrations for change against racism and poverty that surrounded the African-American, minority, oppressed and poor communities all around the world during the civil rights era. Brown is often quoted from a speech that he delivered in the sixties when he said, “violence is American as cherry pie,” and “burn Baby burn!” Brown gave these type of speeches at rally’s when he believed that forcefu acts of racism must also be met with force itself. Because of his original style of poetry and rhythmic delivery, Brown is often credited by Hip Hop musicians as being one of the pioneers of the genre of Rap and Hip Hop music, hence the genre being call “Rap”. While serving a prison sentence in the seventies, Brown made the conversion to the Muslim faith and leads one of the largest Muslim organizations in the world. Now known as Imam Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, Imam Jamil is sentenced to serving a life sentence in Reidsville, Georgia, for allegedly murdering a Fulton County, Georgia, sheriff’s deputy in March of 2000. After he filed and won several lawsuits regarding many violations of his civil rights, his presence in Reidsville lead to the conversion to many inmates to Islam, including some powerful former Arayan’s, and the public reacted to his mistreatment there, he was suddenly sent to the underground Supermax prison in Colorado where he is now being held as an alleged “high security risk”. The film amd music project is a bio-picture and docu-drama that will be a exhaustive, poignant expose into Imam Jamil’s life from the many varied videos and pictures for the day, re-enactments, commentary and interviews from the people he touched and knew him professionally, personally and spiritually.

This project is expected to have or has the support of Congressional Black Caucusmembers, (John Conyers, Bobby Rush and Bobby Scott among others), with some of the biggest names in music, entertainment, sports, Civil and Human Rights history! Harry Belafonte, Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka, Busta Rhymes, Cornel West, Angela Davis, Mos Def, Michael Eric Dyson, Freeway, Dead Prez, Amir Sulaiman, Chuck D, Eric B, Rakim, Akon, Erykah Badu, T-Pain, Saul Williams, DaveyD, John O’Neal (SNCC), Charles McDew (SNCC), Bob Mantz (SNCC), Bobby Seale (co-founder of the Black Panther Party), Kathleen Cleaver (Black Panther Party), Mayor Johnny Jackson (Whitehall, Alabama), Danny Glover, Zack de la Roche, Pharaohe Monch, August Wilson, Wise Intelligent, Ghostface, Dilated Peoples, Jurassic 5, The Last Poets, Pete Rock, Nas, Mystic, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Q-Tip, RZA, Talib Kweli, Just Blaze, Hi-Tek, Beanie Segal, Scareface, many religious leaders from around the world and many, many others.

At the blog linked hereto you will find information we have researched and obtained regarding Imam Jamil’s film, music, and entertainment project that will be developed as much from his writings and catalogue of material as possible. You can access, read and download any document listed herein to give you some background and direction in your efforts to contribute to the project and submitt your works, whether it’s film, music or any other area that you may be able to contribute professionally. Don’t hesitate to contact us regarding your participation. Thank you.

  1. AsSalaamu Alaikum,

Ya Akhi, May Allah Ta’Ala reward you for the work you are doing. My name is Imam Jamil and I am from Chicago. I was wondering if you were aware of the impact and influence Imam Jamil had on the El-Rukns, (formerly the Blackstone Rangers) whose leader Imam Malik (formerly Jeff Fort), became muslim, along with about 200 families of his “followers”. Even now, the community is still in existence. If you think that this information would be useful contact me and I could provide the background information about this, as even now today, Imam Malik (who incidentally is currently incarcerated in the same institution as Imam Jamil), is a member of the community. BET recently did a series called “American Gangster” which featured the community in it’s early days of development but curiously omitted the conversion into Islam of what was once known as the most “notorious, sophisticated, street gang” in existence.

    Ma Salaam
    Jamil

  2. As-Salaamu Alaikum, Brother Jalil:

I’m Said Khalifa. Imam Khalil (Greensboro, North Carolina) has given me instructions to provide you with materials chronicling the life of Imam Jamil.

This material covers the time period Friday, March 17 through Friday, March 24, 2000 (the initial eight-day reports of the various news agencies). Other dated materials include video footage of local news casts; our coverage of the fifteen pre-trial motion hearings; our (partial) coverage of the fifteen-day trial and the sentencing phase of his trial; excerpts of local public-access broadcastings that brought attention to dubious aspects of his case.

At your convenience, contact me at this e-mail address and indicate if any of this would be useful.

  3. As Salaamu Alaykum Br. Abdul-Jalil,

Alhamdulillah your email was sent to me by Imam Luqman of Detroit. Br. Mika’il Saadiq and myself have also been efforts to bring more awareness to Imam Jamil’s situation and have encourage others to call and write concerning the Imam. And with the approval of Sister Karema Al-Amin we wrote to John Conyers but he has yet to reply.

Though, I’m aware of efforts by others in different cities, who are keeping up the awareness of Imam Jamil situation, perhaps it could be due to ignorance, but I’m not aware of any overall framework to coordinate the various efforts.

In an effort to build some cohesion, I would like permission to post links to your videos (and other documentation) of Imam Jamil on various social network sites (facebook.com etc.), list groups and blogs. inshaAllah. Also, I’m open to ideas as to how we can coordinate our efforts. inshaAllah

I’m not an artist myself however, there are a number of others I know, that may be interested in participating in the project. Are you looking only nationally known artists or will any Muslim with “QUALITY” material be considered? Also, what about non-artist involved in the hip hop industry such as promoters or street team marketers, is there any interest in them being included? I look forward to hearing from you inshaAllah.

    Ma’a Salaam

  4. As-salaamu’alaikum,

Imam Jamil is out of the hole and has been placed into the “High Security Unit” in Florence, CO. Although the move can be seen as an improvement, the conditions still are deplorable.

We thank all individuals who made calls, wrote letters, and sent faxes. The campaign was significant and caused this move to happen.

    The struggle continues.

  5. Greetings,

You may have already received this notice. If not please take a moment and consider what you can do.

I have cc’d the contact that sent this to me. You can reach them directly.

    Sincerely,

    Jackie

  6. AsalamuAlaykum brother Jalil.

    I pray all is well.

I hope the crew are all well and enjoying the festive season!

alhamduliAllah i have graduated now and am working for an organisation called the Islamic Human Rights Commission. (IHRC)

It is regarding my work that im actually writing to you.

AlhamduliAllah the IHRC is the most active NGO in the UK working on Imam Jamil’s case.

AlhamduliAllah The brothers and sisters here have spent a lot of time on the case.

I think perhaps by working together we may be able to have a bigger impact. The IHRC is quite a large organisation with special NGO status in the EU and the UN. Without people on the ground informing us of the constant developments i think we are not being as affective as inshAllah we can be. I know that you yourself have taken a keen interest in the case and was hoping you could work with the brother here who is in charge of our Imam Jamil Campaign.

As you can imagine now and then they come across many difficulties.

His name is brother Aaron. In fact he is an American brother.

If its ok with you i would like to pass on your details to him so he can discuss the case with you.

A phone number would be great.

    JazakAllahKheir

    1. ASA All,

A friend of mine is working with an international organization from England fighting for Imam Jamil with the UN and European Union. I will keep up with his organization and see how they can help us in the near future with the efforts in congress, insha’Allah.

      1. Salaams,

FYI: I have been providing updates to Brother Aaron for several years, via e-mail, attachments, and telephone calls. He has done well in getting the information out and preparing reports. I do receive copies.

  7. Bismillah!

    As Salamu Alaikum

My father, Imam Luqman Abdullah in Detroit, Mi Masjid Al-Haqq told me to contact to you and maybe we can work together for Imam Jamil.

I stayed in Atlanta working for Imam Jamil when I was 16 years old, I ran his store in the West End while he was travelling, I did that for a year and some, he was prepping me for leadership, he taught me alot. Okay Salamu Alaikum

  8. As-Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,

I found this response from Omar Regan interesting. This young man, whom you may know, apparently wants to portray the Imam in some capacity, perhaps as an actor or in some comedic role. He may be of some service in a concert/performance setting if in fact he does have some skill and does a “good” impersonation. Insha’Allah, we’ll speak soon.

Ma’a Salaams wa Shukran Jazillin wa BarakAllah-fikum,

    Abdul-Jalil

    1. I can vouch for him he is very talented and a good friend of the family also I will b heading out to california to get in contact with some people so I will want to sit down with you as well

  9. As Salaamu Alaikum Brother Abdul-Jalil!

Long time no speak to or hear from… I was more than delighted to say the least to read that you were playing a major role in supporting Imam Jamil and our mission to fight against the unrighteous deeds he is being faced with at the hands of the Khafirun… I wanted to propse something to to you. I am not sure if you remember way back when that I told you about my book/film project. Today, I am beginning a tour for my self published book called So’ Feet: Sore Mind…Sore Heart…and Sore Soul. It all begins on March 14th and I am so excited because Masha’Allah by the grace and mercy of Allah I have gotten more support than I had imagined would happen. This even before the book was even printed! I am offering to write the movie for Imam Jamil’s movie as I am a Second Generation African American Muslim and was raised in his Community. I believe that Allah inspired me to write and offer my services to you. I am in the process of doing plays and a film for our communities. Proceeds will be donated to every national Masjid as I take turns donating to each community in an effort to build one Ummah and do so by attempting to ‘Save Islam…One Brick at a Time!’

I have attached a sample of my writing to this email and hope to be able to do business with you in some capacity in this lifetime. The best partnership to make my dream come true would be for Imam Jamil. Please, if you would like to speak to me, call me any time that you would like at 347.326.0911 or 917.547.2500 or home 347.281.5377.

    Insha’Allah have a wonderful day!

URGENT-CALL TO ACTION! PLEASE HELP JAMIL AL-AMIN!

    ASA,
There should be an outcry to the US attorney General’s office and the President of the United States. We were concerned about the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, however we have a worst problem in this case.

  11. Peace be upon those who do good:
